Working under the mentorship of its founder, Harry Belafonte, Carmen Perez leads The Gathering for Justice, which advocates for peace through non-violence, promotes human and civil rights worldwide, and advocates for alternatives to incarceration and violence.
Perez led the nine-day, 250-mile March 2 Justice in 2015, and the March for Stolen Lives & Looted Dreams, which brought more than 35,000 people to the streets in June 2020. She was also a national co-chair of the 2017 Women’s March on Washington. She was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People, Fortune’s 50 Top World Leaders, and was named one of Glamour’s Women of the Year in 2017. Carmen has been featured in numerous media publications, including Forbes, Time, Newsweek, MSNBC, Univision, Elle, and Glamour.
